[스페셜경제= Dongsu Kim] Huawei has announced that while in the process of venturing into 5G technology territory, its $2bn allotment on cybersecurity for their new units will still take at least five years to fully address.

In a report by the BBC, the Chinese firm announces this amid Western countries’ fears that Huawei is endangering its users’ information by its compliance to China’s 2017 National Intelligence Law. Under that law, the government can gain access on Huawei’s users’ information, since it dictates that Huawei is obliged to “support, cooperate with, and collaborate in, national intelligence work.”

Although the firm has insisted that it had no direct ties to the government and that the firm would never willingly turn over that kind of information, the discussion remains a pertinent point to other Western countries, issuing warnings of Huawei’s upcoming 5G units.

President of Huawei’s carrier business group, Ryan Ding, says as much: "Were Huawei ever to engage in malicious behaviour, it would not go unnoticed - and it would certainly destroy our business." Ding also iterated, via a letter sent last week, that it would not allow any other organisation to make use of their tech for espionage activities, claiming that Huawei remained a “closely watched company.”

This Western solidarity against Huawei has already spread wide, too, so much so that aside from the United States, European countries like France and Germany are already discussing about keeping Huawei equipment at bay.

So far, Australia and New Zealand have officially sworn off the phone.

It’s worth to mention, though, that British authorities actually reported that there was no clear evidence that the phones were being used by the Chinese government to spy on its users, but that hasn’t stopped the US Justice Department of bombarding the firm with accusations about violating US sanctions.

The department has long since linked Iran with China, arguing that the two had been stealing technology from T-Mobile.
