[Special Economy=Eunji Kim]The 20th legislative elections are approaching and strifes within the Saenuri party are turning into a full-scale war.

At the faction’s Supreme Council on Thursday, Chairperson Rep. Kim Moo-sung and the council member Rep. Seo Cheong-won got involved in a heated argument about this soon-to come general election’s nomination policy.

Their conflict began after the members’ speeches, at a time when the meeting was about to be concluded.

Supreme Council member representatives, on the President Park Geun-hye’s friendly line, began to speak out about nomination supervisory chairperson, Rep. Lee Han-Koo’s criteria policy regarding the said matter, criticizing Rep. Kim.

Both Rep. Lee and Rep. Kim have contrasting views about how candidates should be nominated to the legislature.

In turn, Rep. Kim rebutted, saying “As chairperson, if I see the nomination supervisory committee go against party constitution rules, I have a duty to regulate this kind of action that breaks away from the Supreme Council's nomination policies. I will not stand by.”

“In the Saenuri’s nomination process, removing a number of representatives and electing someone on your side happened in the past but that must never exist now. That much is clear,” he said.

But, Rep. Seo was not the one to back down. “The committee should speak about an agreed content and the Supreme Council should filter that. The discord with the leader is not desirable,” he said. “Rep. Kim saying ‘I will not stand by’ should not be stated.”

Rep. Seo urged for an agreement within the committee about the topic to be sent to the Supreme Council and that this did not take place before falls into the responsibility of Saenuri secretary-general, Rep. Hwang Jin-ha.

“Rep. Kim is always claiming to filter what should be said publicly and not, but today he has chided in the open so I am speaking my mind too,” he said. “His kind of words should not be spoken.”

As this battle of the words continued, Rep. Kim finally left his seat, saying “Please stop what you are doing.”

Some political commentators say it was necessary for Rep. Kim to walk out the door. In other words, what he is pursuing with the nomination policy makes sense.

As rightful citizens of Korea, they should have the claim to nominate their representatives, falling in line with what kind of policies they want to see happen; that is what Rep. Kim is supporting.

On the other hand, Rep. Hwang is advocating for “priority recommendation system,” to elect representatives based on this process at one to three places by metropolitan city classification.

But, Rep. Kim is pushing to give back the nomination right to the people and establish an open primary, which already exist in a developed nation, United States.
