[Special Economy=Eunji Kim]The Minjoo Party's chairman, Moon Jae-in, said he will step down from his position as soon as the hassle over the making up of the faction's election polling committee calms down.

At the new year press conference on Tuesday, he said: “what I wanted to protect throughout these days was not my chairmanship but my principle and promise.”

Moon continued, “I will consult with the members of the supreme council and will push for a swift transfer of the election polling committee with a soldier-like determination.”

“Amid the rocky situation, I followed the principle of political reform, and achieved that,” he said. “I pushed for a fair political candidacy nomination procedure, by making closed-door and one-sided nominations impossible. I gave the citizens the nomination right.”

“Through party recruits, a big wave of change has begun,” he said. “Cooperation is what we aren't seeing and in order for this to happen, it's necessary that I step down as chairman. I believe that decision will help the party.”
