[Special Economy=Eunji Kim]As Korea and Japan reached a landmark agreement Monday on the matter of Korean comfort women in the Japanese imperial army during World War II, it marked a turning point on this issue that has always pulled these two countries further apart.

According to the agreement, Japan has made an apology and agreed on $8.3million payment to the comfort women. However, with the question of whether Japan has taken full legal responsibility, the comfort women in Korea have voiced out about how unsatisfied they are with the deal.

The reaction from these women and the public is showing to be not positive, creating a viewpoint that President Park Geun-hye should personally take action on this matter.

In turn, the Blue House on Wednesday decided to speak out on Wednesday about the possibility that President Park could face-to-face meet with these comfort women, saying “nothing has been confirmed.”

Cheong Wa Dae spokesperson, Jeong Yeon-guk, met with reporters that day and said, “if a review [about this possible meeting] is underway, we will let you know.”

There have been meetings between government officials and comfort women before, but now another encounter is looking more important, as the deal has been concluded, and these women are once again at the center of the news.
